Our Dream 18
As we play some of the iconic courses in the world, we’ll be playing some of the most memorable golf holes as well. Holes that have been the staple of TV coverage, and are etched into the minds of even the most casual golf fan.
Think the road hole at St. Andrews, or the 18th at Wentworth, the 14th at Royal Birkdale where Speith drove it 3 fairways over.
As we play these courses, we’ll nominate our favourite hole to The Dream 18, we’ll write why, and that will help give us the ultimate Dream 18 holes of golf around UK & Ireland.

The 3rd @ Silloth-On-Solway
This hole was stupendous! You have a blind tee shot where you're just aiming for an area. You have a decision to make as driver may be too big, but a long iron still needs a good clip to hit the fairway.
If you do hit it, the terrain rolls down nicely and towards the dogleg. It's all downhill.
What awaits you is like a rollercoaster, as the terrain dips down, it then rises dramatically with a elevated green that has a big drop all down the left, and thick rough back and right. It's a majestic approach shot, and the green is a classic undulating Mackenzie green. This hole is magnificent
The 5th @ Moortown
The picture cannot do this hole justice. It is a daunting tee shot that requires a decision... it's driveable IF you get the line right, but if you decide to lay up, the approach is tricky
You can aim for the tree with a slight draw and hope that you clear it, but there is danger and heather all the way up the left
If you make the fairway, the green is beautiful, with sand all ont he left. The surface is more puttable, but the drive and approach are magnificent
The 4th @ Silloth-On-Solway
It follows one THE great holes in golf, but it doesn't disappoint. A blond tee shot where you feel liek you're aiming for a very narrow valley, and there is no line marker
In reality, it opens up nicely and even a good solid long iron will roll down the hill nicely
If you hit the fairway, you have a crackin approach all downhill so it fills you with dread, into a receptive green. If you get a par here, you'll be very satisfied with your work
The 3rd @ S&A
As you get to the tee box, you have no idea what is waiting... you hit one of the high points of the course, you can see the hole in all its glory in front of you, as well as almost all of neighbouring Hillside
The tee shot is daunting, as alll you can see are the bunkers either side, so hitting a straing drive is paramount
If you hit the fairway, you've only got a wedge approach, but the green has a beautiful backdrop of a row of trees and for me, nothing beats seeing your ball soaring against the green backdrop. The green slopes away from you as well, so it's a tricky approach, but a beautiful golf hole
